Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) was presented with the "Hero of Main Street" award on behalf of the National Retail Federation and Washington Retailer's Association for his support of legislation critical to U.S. retail, including trade, health care reform, and tax reform.
"I am honored to receive this award, and I will continue to support policies to grow small businesses that are the backbone of the American economy," said Rep. Newhouse. "As a third-generation farmer, I have firsthand experience with the challenges and opportunities that come with running a small business. In many cases, simply reducing excessive regulations and cutting red tape can give small businesses the opportunity to do what they do best: create jobs and grow the economy. In Washington, 40 percent of our jobs are either directly created or supported by international trade, and reducing barriers to trade will continue to be a top priority of mine in Congress."
