Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released a statement following President Obama's veto of the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):
"The American people understand exactly what this is: the President is playing politics with defense by holding the national defense authorization bill hostage to advance his own big-spending domestic agenda. Providing for the common defense is the foremost constitutional duty of the federal government. This bill gives the men and women of our Armed Forces the resources they need at the levels requested by the President. Pitting increased domestic spending against resources for our men and women overseas in harm's way is wrong. Congress must override the President's veto to ensure our national security."
