Welch Applauds President Obama's Decision to Streamline Student Financial Aid Process

Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) commended President Obama's decision announced today to simplify the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which, at 105 questions and 88 pages of instructions, can be a bureaucratic nightmare for parents and students.

"With tuition on the rise, and students and parents taking out more and more loans at higher costs, families have enough to worry about when it comes to sending their children to college. They shouldn't have to struggle with paperwork as complicated as a doctoral dissertation just to qualify for assistance," Congressman Welch said. "While there's still work to be done, today's announcement by President Obama brings us one step closer to simplifying the student loan process."
