Congresswoman Clarke's Statement on Energy Assistance for New York State Families

Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement on the announcement by the Department of Health and Human Services that New York State residents will receive $326 million from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, more than any other state. The program allows families to pay for heat and electricity in the winter.

"In the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, New York State families have an invaluable resource for keeping warm -- and therefore safe -- in the cold months of winter. We know that this program continues to save lives, in part by precluding risky attempts to stay warm by, for example, sleeping in the kitchen with the oven door open, which sometimes unintentionally results in a fire. I encourage anyone who needs assistance paying for heat or electricity to contact the New York City Human Resources Administration about the Home Energy Assistance Program," said Congresswoman Clarke, who has worked to protect energy assistance programs from Republicans in Congress.
