Governors, Senators Announce Agreement That Paves The Way For Gateway Tunnel Project To Proceed Full Steam Ahead

Today, New York and New Jersey leaders announced that they have reached an agreement on funding commitments and a governance structure that will allow the critically important Gateway Tunnel Project to move forward. The agreement marks a major milestone in the effort to build a new trans-Hudson river tunnel that is an essential portion of Amtrak's eight-state Northeast Corridor that connects the states of New York and New Jersey and is one of our region's most critical major infrastructure projects.

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer said, "It was a long struggle but getting all the parties on the same page is a very big first step. We will scour every part of the federal government to get our 50 percent and we know the states will do the same. The Gateway Development Corporation, which we proposed in August and provides a way for all four key stakeholders to work together effectively, is the best way to get this project moving."
