Lujan Statement of the 25th Anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act

Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico's Third District commemorated the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law by President George H. W. Bush on July 26, 1990. Enacted with bipartisan support, the ADA prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in employment, state and local government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation.

"Twenty-five years ago, the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act marked the latest step forward in our continued pursuit of equality by expanding opportunity and access for people with disabilities," Congressman Luján said. "As we reflect on the anniversary of this important law that has helped millions of people contribute to the fabric of our society, let us recommit to ensuring that all people have the opportunity to use their talents to the fullest to make our country a better place. Let us celebrate the progress that has been made thanks to the ADA, while also continuing to promote equality and break down barriers that prevent hard-working individuals from reaching their full potential."
