Gov. Scott: Jacksonville Added More Than 16,000 Jobs Over the Year

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the Jacksonville area gained 16,200 new jobs over the year in September 2015. Jacksonville's unemployment rate declined by one percentage point over the year, from 6.1 percent in September 2014 down to 5.1 percent in September 2015. Florida businesses have added 941,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "Jacksonville has played a big part in the tremendous job growth seen across our state. With over 16,000 new jobs created over the year, more families in Jacksonville have the opportunity to get a great job and achieve their dreams."

The industries with the largest job gains over the year were trade, transportation, and utilities with 6,200 new jobs; education and health services with 5,500 new jobs; and leisure and hospitality with 4,500 new jobs. In September 2015, the Jacksonville MSA had 20,360 job openings and had 5,164 openings for high-wage, high-skill science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) jobs.

Florida created 8,700 private-sector jobs in September 2015, and a total of 941,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for September 2015 was 5.2 percent. In September, more than 40,000 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Northeast Florida and the state's other 23 regional workforce boards.
