Gov. Rick Scott: The Pensacola Area Added 3,800 Jobs Over the Year

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the Pensacola area added 3,800 new jobs over the year. The area's unemployment rate declined by 1.1 percentage points over the year, from 6.3 percent in August 2014 to 5.2 percent in August 2015. Florida businesses have added 940,600 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "Families in the Pensacola area are continuing to see economic growth, with 3,800 jobs created over the year and a declining unemployment rate. We will keep working to cut taxes and grow opportunities to make Florida the best place in the nation to get a job and raise a family."

The industries with the largest job gains in the Pensacola metro area over the year were education and health services with 800 new jobs, and construction and leisure and hospitality with 700 new jobs each. The Pensacola metro area had 5,880 online job openings in August 2015 and 1,156 openings for high wage, high skill science technology engineering math (STEM) occupations.

Florida created 20,100 private-sector jobs in August 2015, and a total of 940,600 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for August 2015 was 5.3 percent. In August, more than 37,900 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Escarosa and the state's other 23 regional workforce boards.
