Congresswoman Pingree has been long-term opponent of tar sands pipeline
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement after President Obama announced he was rejecting the Keystone pipeline proposal. Pingree has been a long-term opponent of the project, and first contacted the Obama Administration in the summer of 2010 to voice her opposition.
"The Keystone pipeline was a bad idea from the beginning. It would have been bad for the environment and bad for the country's long-term energy security. Instead of investing in dirty tar-sands oil that will create massive amounts of greenhouse gas pollution, we should be developing new sources of clean energy that create good paying jobs right here in this country," Pingree said.
