Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the 20th Anniversary of the Assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin:

"On the 20th anniversary of the death of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, let us pause to reflect on his tremendous courage and commitment to peace. Prime Minister Rabin devoted his life to the security of the State of Israel and believed that the Israeli and Palestinian people could live side-by-side in peace and security. On this day 20 years ago, just before succumbing to an assassin's bullet, his last words were words of peace: "I have always believed that the majority of the people want peace, are prepared to take risks for peace...Peace is what the Jewish People aspire to.'

"Let Rabin's words be a beacon to all the peacemakers who commit themselves to the cause for which Rabin gave his life."
