Online enrollment for 2016 health insurance through Maryland's state-based marketplace, the Maryland Health Connection, has started. I hope you will visit www.MarylandHealthConnection.gov today to shop and compare prices of health plans so that you can enroll in a plan that best suits you and your family. You can also check to see if you qualify for financial assistance to lower your health insurance costs.

Even if you already have a health plan through the marketplace, you should revisit the website again to make sure you have the best coverage that fits your budget. This year, you can also enroll in a dental-only plan or add dental coverage when you enroll in a health plan.

Last year, more than 700,000 Marylanders enrolled in quality health coverage through the Maryland Health Connection, including 120,000 in private health insurance plans and more than 600,000 in Medicaid. For those who complete their enrollment by December 15, 2015, health care coverage will begin on January 1, 2016. Enrollments completed between December 16 and January 15 will have coverage beginning February 1, 2016. Enrollments completed between January 16 and January 31, the last day of open enrollment, will have coverage beginning March 1, 2016.
