Van Hollen Announce $477,620 for Fire Departments in Libertytown and Urbana

Today Maryland Congressmen Chris Van Hollen announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), under the Department of Homeland Security, has awarded $477,620 in grants to two local fire departments. Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department will receive $382,381, which will be used to purchase a new fire truck, and Urbana Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. will receive $95,239 for operations and safety.

"These funds will give much needed assistance to the brave men and women who selflessly protect our communities," said Congressman Van Hollen. "Our first responders are at the front lines when disaster strikes, and these grants will ensure they have the best possible equipment and training to keep themselves and our neighborhoods safe."

Federal funds are awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, which aims to strengthen first responders' ability to maintain their own safety while improving their ability to protect the public as well. Operations and Safety grants are used for professional training, wellness and fitness programs equipment, personal protective equipment, modifications to facilities, and supplies that support firefighting and non-affiliated EMS operations and safety.
