Fleming Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood and Protect Born Alive Infants

Statement

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after voting for H.R. 3134 to defund Planned Parenthood and H.R. 3504, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act:

"Today we took a critical and long overdue step to ensure that taxpayer dollars no longer fund America's largest abortion provider. Recent reports indicate that Planned Parenthood's tactics to harvest and sell "fresh" baby body parts are business as usual. This profiteering enterprise is repulsive and should prick the conscience of every American.

"If Planned Parenthood wants to continue providing abortions and selling human remains, it cannot be at the cost of violating taxpayers' consciences. The choice is very simple.

"The dignity of human life is not contingent on the circumstances surrounding a child's birth. Premature babies deserve the best care available and today's Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act ensures as much for children who survive an abortion."
