Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after voting against the President¹s nuclear deal with Iran, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA):
"The JCPOA is delinquent on even the most basic points. Instead of anytime, anywhere inspections, guaranteeing the most accurate assessment of Iran¹s nuclear ambitions, the Iran deal insulates clandestine nuclear activity. Instead of gradual and conditional sanctions relief, Iran will enjoy near immediate relief from economic, energy, and financial sanctions. The JCPOA provides useless recourse should Iranian cooperation degenerate. And, instead of halting and dismantling Iran¹s nuclear weapons program, the dealif followeddelays Iran¹s bomb production for a few years, virtually acceding an immediate breakout time in 15 years or less.
³Nearly two months have passed since the Administration signed a nuclear deal with Iran, yet Iran hasn¹t changed its tune of aggression, terrorist activities, and blatant disregard for U.N. restrictions. Iran continues to assail the United States and promises to erase Israel from the map. And this is the country we trust to monitor its own nuclear sites?
³This bad deal won¹t cut it. I voted against the President¹s nuclear deal with Iran and would urge him to go back to the drawing board. America can and must do better than this.²
