Newsletters - The Hill Report: Week of August 24 - 28, 2015

Statement

I was delighted to spend this beautiful week in Dallas meeting with North Texans across the 32nd Congressional District to discuss the important issues facing our communities and nation as a whole. I always value the opportunity to listen to feedback from constituents and learn how I can best represent the people of North Texas.

Town Hall Meeting
From the president's disastrous Iran Nuclear Deal, to the horrific actions of Planned Parenthood, to our nation's broken immigration system, our country is facing a host of issues that directly impact North Texans and all Americans. On Tuesday evening, I had the opportunity to have a robust discussion about these important issues with more than 300 North Texans at my Town Hall meeting in Richardson. We had a very productive conversation about my plans to vote against the president's Iran Nuclear Deal, my efforts to vigorously protect all life and fight against Planned Parenthood's appalling actions, and my new bill, the Protecting American Lives Act, to strengthen our interior enforcement and put an end to sanctuary cities.

Texas National Guard Armory
Monday afternoon I toured the Texas National Guard Armory in Wylie and met with officers to learn more about their duties as a unit both at home and abroad. This unit has been deployed to Afghanistan to help with the Agribusiness Development Team, to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom, and to the Horn of Africa to assist with security and training in the area. In addition to their service abroad, these guardsmen and women were an integral component of the 2015 Operation Strong Safety to secure our southern Texas border. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about their continued efforts in Texas and across the world and I look forward to working with them to ensure they have the resources they need to continue to succeed.

Rowlett Lions Club
I was delighted to attend the Rowlett Lions Club meeting on Monday evening to learn more about their efforts to help kids in the North Texas community. Their chapter is focused on providing a safe, nurturing environment for the children of Rowlett and ensuring the children in our community have every opportunity to succeed and thrive. I am extremely pleased to have such a wonderful organization in the 32nd Congressional District that is focused on strengthening our community and building our future leaders through service and leadership.

Visit to Texas Neurology
On Wednesday I had the opportunity to tour Texas Neurology and learn about their comprehensive care model and the work they are doing to improve the quality of life for citizens with neurological disorders not just in Dallas, but across North Texas and beyond. I am always thankful for the men and women who choose to devote their lives to caring for others, and the doctors at Texas Neurology are among those who deserve our gratitude for the services they perform.
