Statement

This week I had the opportunity to travel around the 32nd Congressional District and meet with innovative North Texas companies, listen to the concerns from the business community, and discuss the important issues facing our nation with the young leaders of our community.

Zyvex Labs
On Monday I toured Zyvex Labs in Richardson. This is a groundbreaking research and development company that is working to develop atomically precise manufacturing and is currently working on an advanced prosthetic vision device to help people who are blind see again. As a staunch advocate to help those with vision impairment, I applaud this company's commitment to creating new opportunities for those who are losing their sight.

GE Business Roundtable
Tuesday morning I was pleased to participate in a roundtable discussion at the GE facility in North Texas. We had a robust discussion about my efforts to fight against onerous policies that strain their business and halt their productivity. In addition to the roundtable, I also toured the facility which produces a locomotive a day going to the BNSF and Union Pacific Railways. I thoroughly enjoyed our discussion and I look forward to continuing to working towards solutions to protect North Texas businesses from burdensome federal regulations imposed by this Administration.

IBM Tour
Tuesday afternoon I visited IBM and met with managers from several different divisions of the company to learn about how they provide solutions to businesses from small start-ups to Fortune 100s, and the challenges they face in an industry that revolutionizes itself approximately every decade. I was especially impressed with IBM's Watson, a cognitive computer system with applications across a wide spectrum of industries, from healthcare to policing to logistics. I always enjoy learning more about the leading edge technology that is being developed and produced in North Texas.

City of Irving Transportation and Water Summit
I believe it is critical that we continue to take care of the North Texas water supply and strengthen our infrastructure to meet the demands of our growing area. These issues are extremely important to the people of the 32nd Congressional District and I was delighted to engage in a robust discussion about these critical issues with my colleagues Congressman Joe Barton, Congressman Kenny Marchant, and Congressman Marc Veasey at the City of Irving Transportation and Water Summit.

Texas Leadership Forum
As the Honorary Chair of the Texas Leadership Forum, I am always delighted to meet the new participants in the program. This program is a wonderful opportunity for young leaders to foster their leadership skills, participate in character building activities, and broaden their knowledge of our nation's government and public policy. I am looking forward to watching these young men and women grow as students, citizens, and leaders over the course of the next year, and hosting them in our nation's Capital next summer.
