Statement

I was delighted to meet with North Texans across the 32nd Congressional District to discuss important issues facing our economy and communities. During the August district work period I look forward to listening to constituents and learning more about how I can work on their behalves to strengthen our community and nation as a whole.

Chamber of Commerce Meetings
This week I was pleased to participate in the Richardson, Sachse, and Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce meetings. In each of these meetings I had the opportunity to discuss important issues facing the business community in North Texas. I have always been a fierce supporter of the free enterprise system and believe that we must continue to work to reduce onerous regulations on our small businesses, get government out of the way, and let the free enterprise system thrive.

US Global Leadership Coalition Texas Advisory Committee
I was pleased to meet with members of the United States Global Leadership Coalition on Monday. The USGLC is a broad-based network of 400 businesses and NGOs, national security and foreign policy experts, and business, faith-based, academic and community leaders from all 50 states. They advocate for building a safer world through American leadership in diplomacy and international development in addition to defense. I appreciate the opportunity to have exchanged views with members of the USGLC's Texas Advisory Committee.

Visiting Leading Edge Facilities in North Texas
North Texas Municipal Water District Update with Congressman Johnson
Congressman Sam Johnson and I were able to visit the North Texas Municipal Water District this week to receive an update on the ongoing issues facing North Texas and many of our constituents. I have had the opportunity over the past few years to work with Congressman Johnson and the rest of the North Texas Congressional Delegation to help resolve many of these issues, including most recently the redistricting of Lake Texoma. I look forward to working with our delegation and North Texas Municipal Water District in the future.

nonPareil Institute
On Wednesday I had the opportunity to tour the nonPareil Institute in Plano. Dan Selec, founder and creator of the Institute, started this program to help his son and other individuals with autism harness their technical abilities. He grew the program from an eight-person class that met in his kitchen five nights per week to a renowned program at SMU-in-Plano with 130 students. nonPareil is dedicated to providing technical training, employment, and housing to individuals diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. As the proud father of a Down syndrome young man, it was a pleasure to tour their facility and learn more about how this father developed a leading edge program to create more opportunities for his son and other individuals who have autism.

UT Southwestern
I had the opportunity this week to tour the New Clements University Hospital at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Daniel Podolsky, M.D. and his colleagues also updated me about their proposal of a very promising form of cancer treatment: the Heavy Ion Project. I have worked with UT Southwestern during the past year to garner recognition and funding for this proposal ? one of only eight Heavy Ion centers worldwide ? and look forward to working with them on this very promising treatment in the future.

Salesmanship Club of Dallas
The Salesmanship Club of Dallas is a service organization of more than 600 business and community leaders committed to transforming kids' lives. For more than 90 years, the Club has powered the education and mental health programs of Momentous Institute, which works to build and repair social and emotional health for kids and families. I was delighted to discuss some of the important issues facing our country with such an outstanding group of community leaders at their lunch on Thursday.

RESULTS
On Tuesday, I was able to meet with members of RESULTS, a national advocacy group working to save and improve the lives of those most vulnerable in our society. I enjoyed learning about the efforts this remarkable group is undertaking in pursuit of their worthy goals of fighting poverty and reducing preventable maternal and childhood mortality.
