Statement: Rogers Opposes Iran Nuclear Agreement

Today, U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) released the following statement after the House voted against the Iran Nuclear Agreement.

"On a day when we're reminded of the constant threat of terrorism confronted by the U.S. and our allies around the world, the House of Representatives and the overwhelming majority of Americans have made their opposition to this deal clear. The only winner of the President's negotiated nuclear deal is Iran, who will now be emboldened to further spread its anti-American sentiments throughout the world. It's clear that this agreement makes the world less safe and makes it more likely that Iran will acquire a nuclear weapon in the future. This isn't just a bad deal for the United States; it's a grave deal for our trusted allies in the Middle East, particularly Israel, and has the potential to ignite a nuclear race. Further, the President has failed to uphold his promise for transparency by negotiating secret side deals and refusing to release all the details of the plan to Congress and the American people. We have time for a better deal and that's why the House voted to improve accountability and prohibit any efforts to lift or reduce sanctions on Iran."
