Newsletter: My Thoughts on Planned Parenthood

Statement

Date: July 17, 2015
Issues: Abortion

As someone who shares my principled belief in protecting the rights of the unborn, I want to relay my thoughts over the organ harvesting practices recently revealed by the Planned Parenthood Senior Director of Medical Services.

The practice described in the video, of systematically harvesting fetal organs to make money from abortion procedures, is morally abhorrent. It has no place in our society.

After the video surfaced, I sent a strongly worded letter to two high-ranking Chairmen in the House of Representatives outlining the justification for a full-scale investigation into Planned Parenthood's activities. The Chairmen did announce that an investigation will be launched, and both myself and many of my colleagues stand ready to contribute in any way we can to ensure Congress gets to the bottom of this unspeakable situation.

I have long fought to promote the sanctity of all human life, and the recent revelations have only hardened my resolve.

Since coming to Congress, I have used lessons learned while serving on the board of a Crisis Pregnancy Center in my work on the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus. Experience working with women in crisis, while at the same time, offering free legal counsel to loving individuals willing to adopt, provided me with unique insight into steps we can take, as staunch pro-life supporters, to bring about changes in the law and promote a culture of life.

The disgusting news from this week should serve as a wake-up call. For we must remain vigilant in our efforts to protect every innocent life and I welcome your ideas on how we can sooner realize that goal in America.
