U.S. Congressman Marlin Stutzman issued the following statement today reflecting on Pope Francis' address to the joint meeting of Congress.
"Pope Francis was inspiring and serious this morning on the House floor. The Holy Father chose only four exclamations for the body of his remarks -- half of them to emphasize his feelings on the state of the family, which he hopes to be the recurrent theme of his trip to the United States.
"Strong families are fundamental to the flourishing of Indiana's neighborhoods and America's system of self-government. I was struck by Pope Francis' mention of families' essential role building this country and his championship of families' worthiness of support and encouragement in today's culture.
"Reflecting on the Pope's message, I am more resolved than ever to continue working diligently towards public policies that make hardworking Hoosier families safer and more prosperous."
