Congressman Doug Collins: "Sanctuary cities are illegal, and DHS must act"

Today, Congressman Doug Collins issued the following statement regarding comments made by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson during a speech at The Commonwealth Club of California in San Francisco:

"During his testimony at the House Judiciary Committee hearing on July 14th, Secretary Johnson was unwilling to take the actions necessary to end sanctuary city policies. Now, it appears that there has been a shift in attitude -- during his speech at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, the city in which Kate Steinle was murdered in broad daylight by an illegal immigrant with a history of 5 deportations -- Secretary Johnson was able to concede that sanctuary cities are indeed "counterproductive". We need more than rhetoric from the Department of Homeland Security. We need an administration that is committed to enforcing the laws of this country, and so far we have seen nothing but a contradiction of the very idea of enforcement. Georgia has led the way in consistent enforcement of immigration laws, and in our state, local police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement work together to keep our communities safe and our system fair."
