Collaborative efforts to protect the Greater sage-grouse

Statement

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Interior Secretary Sally Jewell to discuss her agency's assessment of the Greater sage-grouse habitat in Colorado and our neighboring states. For years, communities all along the Western Slope have worked tirelessly to protect the habitat of the Greater sage-grouse. These efforts have produced verifiable results that have helped stabilize its population and create an environment in which these birds can thrive.

In my conversation with Secretary Jewell, I reiterated the ongoing collaborative efforts our producers and communities have undertaken to protect the Greater sage-grouse habitat. We understand and respect the thorough process the Interior Department is undergoing to determine the success of our conservation efforts and whether further protection is needed under the Endangered Species Act. We remain optimistic that at the end of the day, the agency will reach a "not warranted' decision.
