Congresswoman Frankel, Local Airport Officials Meet with FAA Regional Director

Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-22) hosted a meeting last week with FAA Regional Director Dennis Roberts and airport officials from Broward and Palm Beach counties during which they discussed upcoming Congressional legislation as well as local airport issues.

The FAA announced that new flight patterns are starting out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to alleviate local residents' concerns of noise and safety. This action was taken pursuant to Congresswoman Frankel's request to FAA and FLL airport officials to address quality of life issues raised by homeowners living east of the airport.

Meeting participants also discussed the need for a long term FAA reauthorization bill, access to resources for capital improvements, and the increasing demand for custom agents.

"Commercial and private air traffic is vital to our South Florida economy," said Frankel. "It is important for local and federal officials to have a close working relationship in order to improve service and maintain residential quality of life."

Attending the meeting were officials from Boca Raton Airport, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, Pompano Beach Airpark, and Palm Beach International Airport, which oversees many of the smaller local airports that operate out of Palm Beach County.
