DeSantis: IRS Commissioner Stonewalling Courts and Congress, Demonstrating Contempt for the American People

Statement

Date: July 30, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

A federal judge has threatened to hold IRS Commissioner John Koskinen in contempt of court for not complying in a timely manner with a court order to turn over documents related to the illegal targeting of conservative groups. Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06), a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement:

"IRS Commissioner Koskinen continues to stonewall both our congressional investigation and court orders aiming to uncover more information about their illicit targeting. Does Commissioner Koskinen believe that he should be held to a different standard than the American people? Commissioner Koskinen has shown contempt for both the American people and the courts of law. A taxpayer would never get away with obstructing an IRS investigation in this manner. Koskinen's noncompliance is unacceptable, and the President should take action to remove him immediately. If the President won't, Congress will."
