Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38), Co-Chair of the Labor and Working Families Caucus, today issued the following statement on President Obama's executive order requiring federal contractors to offer their employees up to seven days of paid sick leave per year -- benefiting more than 300,000 federal contractors:
"President Obama's executive order is a huge step forward for workers' rights in America," said Rep. Linda Sánchez. "Working men and women should not have to choose between their job and the ability to take care of themselves and their families. For many working Americans -- especially hourly workers and part timers working multiple jobs -- paid sick leave is critically important because a cold or the flu could put their financial wellbeing at risk. While this executive order is welcome news, we must continue to push private employers to extend paid sick leave benefits to the more than 43 million men and women working without this protection."
