Location: Washington, DC

Today, the United States House of Representatives passed H.R. 3236, the Surface Transportation and Veterans Health Care Choice Improvement Act of 2015. The bill extends the Highway Trust Fund (HTF) through October 29, 2015 and transfers $3.348 billion dollars from the Veterans Choice Fund to pay for non-VA care provided to eligible patients from May 1 to October 1, 2015.

"This additional highway funding extension guarantees important road and transportation projects will continue," said Cramer. "My preference is for Congress to finalize a long-term solution to funding the Highway Trust Fund (HST) and stop relying on short-term extensions."

The act also secures funding to keep Veterans Affairs hospitals open and serving the nation's servicemen and women.

"Providing our veterans access to the best health care possible must be a priority in Congress," commented Cramer. "H.R. 3326, secures the funding needed to keep VA hospitals operating as well as implementing needed reforms to make it easier for veterans to access health care."
