Blackburn Supports Small Businesses by Reining in Regulations

Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) today voted in support of legislation that supports Tennessee's small businesses by reining in regulations that have led to higher prices, lower wages, and a decline in economic growth. Blackburn issued the following statement in support of H.R. 427, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act (REINS ACT).

"Almost 75% of small businesses reported that regulations were hurting their operating environment. With Tennessee home to so many of the best and brightest entrepreneurs, I continuously work to ensure the excessive regulations being imposed on their businesses by unelected bureaucrats in Washington are reined in. Instead of placing more costly regulations on American business owners, we need to create an environment that promotes innovation, growth, and job creation so that all Americans can lead a more prosperous life," Blackburn said.

The REINS Act restores legislative authority to Congress, a body that is held more accountable to the American people than federal bureaucracies, to prevent new excessive regulations. The legislation requires agencies to submit major regulations to Congress for approval, ensures no major rule becomes effective until Congress approves it, and guarantees Congress acts swiftly with an up or down vote within 70 legislative days.
