Dear Friend,

Whether in Washington or San Diego, my focus is always on San Diego priorities: keep our communities safe from wildfires, advance the cause of equality, modernize our national defense, and address homelessness. This summer, I have advocated for practical solutions to these issues and others to compel Congress to act and drive San Diego forward.

Preparing Your Home for Wildfires

Wildfire season is getting longer and more intense in California. Tips and tools from Cal Fire to prepare for a wildfire can be found HERE. In Washington, I'm fighting legislation that would take away essential water resources, and working with the FAA to integrate drones effectively so that they can be helpful, not harmful, to firefighting efforts.

Continuing the Fight for Equal Rights

Did you know that in 31 states LGBT Americans can still be fired from their job or denied a place to live because of their sexual orientation or gender identity? As a longtime supporter of equal rights for the LGBT community, I have co-sponsored The Equality Act because it will bring LGBT Americans equal protection under the law.

Supporting the Military's Push for Energy Supply Diversity

Our country needs a strong, smart, and durable military that is prepared to face 21st-century threats. I introduced legislation to give the military the tools they've asked for to diversify their energy supply. Investing in renewable sources and promoting energy efficiency will enhance our national security and protect our warfighters from the needless harm that comes from transporting massive amounts of petroleum fuel across remote battlefields.

Addressing Homelessness in San Diego

Congress is often plagued by inaction, but I'm continuing to work across the aisle to get something done about homelessness. The House passed my bill to cut bureaucratic red tape and get housing assistance more quickly to those in need. This bipartisan victory will make it easier for non-profits to assist the homeless in San Diego.
