Governor Hassan to Nominate Victoria Sheehan of Nashua as Commissioner of the Department of Transportation

As part of her efforts to ensure a modern, safe transportation infrastructure that is critical for New Hampshire's people, businesses, and economy, Governor Maggie Hassan today announced that she will nominate Victoria Sheehan of Nashua as Commissioner of the Department of Transportation.

Sheehan was the top recommendation of a comprehensive search effort led by Department of Safety commissioner John Barthelmes, former Department of Transportation Commissioner George Campbell, former Department of Administrative Services Commissioner Linda Hodgdon and Nashua Mayor Donnalee Lozeau.

"The Commissioner of the Department of Transportation is critical to ensuring that our state has the full range of safe and modern transportation options that our 21st century economy needs to thrive and grow," Governor Hassan said. "Victoria Sheehan will bring years of experience managing complex transportation projects and programs in her more than ten years of distinguished work at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and Highway Department."

Currently the Manager of Strategic Planning and Highway Performance at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Sheehan coordinates the Highway Division's five-year, $5 billion capital plan and annual $600 million operating budget, and is also responsible for asset management, project controls and performance oversight.

She has also served in various others roles at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, including Accelerated Bridge Program Manager and Bridge Program Consultant Contracts Administrator. Sheehan received a Masters of Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, and has also served as a Project Design Engineer and Resident Engineer for the Massachusetts Highway Department.

"I am grateful that Governor Hassan has entrusted me with the important responsibility of ensuring a reliable and modern transportation infrastructure that will lay the foundation for future economic growth, and I look forward to working with the Governor and New Hampshire's dedicated DOT employees to keep the state's roads clear and safe," Sheehan said.

The nomination is subject to confirmation by the Executive Council. Governor Hassan will formally make the nomination to the Council at Wednesday's (August 26) meeting.
