Hoeven Announces $2 Million DHS Grant to Fund Flood Protection for Fargo Wastewater Treatment Plant

Senator John Hoeven today announced that the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a $2 million grant from its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) to the City of Fargo. As Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee on Homeland Security, Hoeven oversees the department's annual budget. Today's funds will go towards improving Fargo's wastewater system to reduce the risk of sewer backup during flooding.

"It's important for us to invest in infrastructure that is fit to withstand the impacts of flooding," Hoeven said. "Today's FEMA grant will go towards making necessary improvements to the City of Fargo's wastewater system to minimize the risk of sewer backup into public and private property during flooding, and is part of our ongoing efforts to protecting North Dakotans' homes and businesses from natural disasters."
