STATEMENT OF SEN. DICK DURBIN REGARDING THE AGREEMENT ON JUDICIAL NOMINATIONS IN THE SENATE

"Many of us in the Senate feel that this agreement tonight means that some of the most treasured and cherished traditions of the United States Senate will be preserved, will not be attacked and will not be destroyed."

"I think this is a time for celebration on both sides of the aisle."

"What we have seen tonight was the emergence of people from the center who really were dedicated to this institution and to our role in our government. I hope that this spirit continues and spills over to other issues."

"Will we tomorrow come together and start working on important issues, like retirement security, health care in America, the protection of our nation, the support of our men and women in uniform, doing something to help with education?"
