U.S. Congresswoman Ann Wagner today held a press conference with Reps. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), Sean Duffy (R-Wisc.), Martha Roby (R-Ala.) and a bipartisan group of Members calling for investigations and committee hearings on the recently released undercover video showing the top doctor at Planned Parenthood soliciting buyers for fetal organs and tissue.
"The atrocities described in the video that surfaced yesterday are beyond grotesque. As a defender of the unborn, I joined my colleagues yesterday in calling for immediate committee hearings and an investigation. I thank Chairmen Upton and Goodlatte for taking such swift action to bring this issue forward in their committees," Rep. Wagner said.
In the video, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Senior Director of Medical Services for Planned Parenthood, can be seen discussing how Planned Parenthood sells body parts of aborted babies and uses partial-birth abortions to harvest intact body parts.
In a letter to Chairmen Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), the Members ask the House Judiciary and Energy & Commerce Committees to investigate:
trafficking of fetal tissue that examines current federal laws and regulations in their Committee's jurisdiction,
potential violations of current law,
Identify areas where the law may be insufficient.
Explore the activities of abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood, companies that broker fetal tissue and any incentives created by National Institutes of Health funding for research using the body parts of unborn children.
