Gov. Scott: Jacksonville Added More Than 19,000 Jobs Over the Year

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the Jacksonville area gained 19,600 new jobs over the year in July 2015. The Jacksonville MSA's unemployment rate declined by 1.2 percentage points over the year, from 6.8 percent in July 2014 to 5.6 percent in July 2015. Florida businesses have added 917,400 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "In Jacksonville, more than 19,000 jobs were added over the year in July, which is great news for families in the area. Our work to grow the economy is paying off, and we will keep working to create new opportunities until every Floridian who wants a job can get one."

The industries with the largest job gains over the year were leisure and hospitality with 7,700 new jobs, education and health services with 5,100 new jobs, and trade, transportation, and utilities with 4,600 new jobs. In July 2015, the Jacksonville MSA had 19,480 online job openings and had 4,747 online openings for high wage, high skill science technology engineering math (STEM) jobs.

Florida created 16,900 private-sector jobs in July 2015, and a total of 917,400 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for July 2015 was 5.4 percent. In July, more than 36,600 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Northeast Florida and the state's other 23 regional workforce boards.
