Gov. Scott: Orlando Area Continues to Lead Florida in Job Creation

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that the Orlando area gained 45,300 new jobs over the year in July 2015, the highest number of new jobs among all Florida metro areas for the 30th consecutive month. The Orlando MSA's unemployment rate declined by 1.2 percentage points over the year, from 6.4 percent in July 2014 to 5.2 percent in July 2015. Florida businesses have added 917,400 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "For two and a half years, Orlando has led the state in job creation and more than 45,000 jobs were added over the year. Central Florida continues to see tremendous growth and more families are finding opportunities to succeed."

In July 2015, the industries with the largest job gains over the year in the Orlando metro area were in leisure and hospitality with 11,200 new jobs, trade, transportation, and utilities with 10,700 new jobs, and professional and business services with 8,100 new jobs. The metro area had the second-highest online job demand in Florida in July 2015 with 34,408 openings and also ranked number two in high wage, high skill science technology engineering math (STEM) demand in the state with 8,953 openings in those fields.

Florida created 16,900 private-sector jobs in July 2015, and a total of 917,400 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for July 2015 was 5.4 percent. In July, more than 36,600 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Central Florida and the state's other 23 regional workforce boards.
