$1 Million Federal Funding Will Help Build New I-95 Exit in Waterville

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree said this morning that a $1 million federal grant will help pay for a new exit off Interstate 95 in Waterville to provide increased access to a light manufacturing facility on Trafton Road.

"This is a real economic development project," Pingree said. "By increasing access to the industrial facility on Trafton Road, it's going to allow the current companies doing business there to expand. That creates jobs and puts money directly into the local economy."

Pingree has visited Mid-State Machine, a manufacturing facility on Trafton Road in Waterville that would be one of the beneficiaries of a new Interstate exit.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be $4.8 million and will be split evenly between this federal grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, funding from the Maine Department Transportation and an investment from Trafton Realty, the owner of about 900 acres in Waterville and Sidney, including the light manufacturing facility that houses Mid-State Machine.

The new exit would be about halfway between the Kennedy Memorial Drive and Lyons Road exits, near the Waterville/Sidney line.
