Statement on Fairpoint Layoffs

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement after Fairpoint announced it is laying off over 200 workers in Northern New England. Pingree had been told that 79 of those workers are in Maine.

"Fairpoint has had a poor record of customer service and has not lived up to their obligations to adequately support the landline network in Northern New England. Laying off hundreds of highly skilled, experienced workers isn't likely to fix those problems."
