Van Hollen Statement on 25th Anniversary of Ryan White CARE Act

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement on the 25th anniversary of the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency Act (CARE Act):

"In 1984, a 13 year old boy named Ryan White was diagnosed with HIV because of a blood transfusion, and he refused to accept that his disease made him undeserving of equal access to care and respect. After his tenacious advocacy, the Ryan White CARE Act was enacted on this day in 1990. And 25 years later, the law has helped millions of vulnerable Americans get the HIV/AIDS treatment they need. We've made progress on treatment and prevention -- but with HIV rates rising in some areas, it's clear that the work to honor Ryan and all those who bravely stand up to this disease is not finished. We must build on the progress made by this landmark legislation and remain committed to ending this epidemic once and for all."
