Van Hollen Marks Opening of U.S. Embassy in Cuba, Calls for Lifting the Embargo

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the flag-raising ceremony at the U.S. embassy in Havana, Cuba:

"Just eight months after returning from Cuba with Alan Gross, today marked another important milestone in our renewed effort to engage with the Cuban people. After 54 years of a failed policy of isolation, Congress must now make a serious effort to lift the trade embargo -- it hurts the Cuban people and hinders the cultural and economic benefits the United States stands to gain from our neighbor."
