Van Hollen Applauds Senate Committee Action on Green Banks

Statement

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement on the green bank provision in the Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2015 passed yesterday by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Congressman Van Hollen is the author of the original Green Bank Act:

"Yesterday the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee passed the Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2015. This legislation includes language that would permit state-based clean energy financing entities or "green banks" to participate in the Department of Energy's Section 1703 Loan Program. If passed and utilized effectively by the Administration, this forward-looking provision would go a long way towards helping to stand up green banks in states that want them and accelerate our ability to take America's clean energy transformation to scale.

"While I share many concerns that have been expressed about other parts of this bill, I congratulate Chairman Murkowski, Ranking Member Cantwell and the rest of the committee for including this proposal in their legislation and look forward to working with them, my colleagues in the House and all relevant stakeholders to improve the final package and ensure that this green bank provision gets enacted into law."
