Van Hollen: GOP Efforts to Undermine the Democratic Process are Unbelievable and Unacceptable

Issues: Elections

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement on Congressional Republican efforts to undermine our democratic process through the FY 2016 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill:

"This is unbelievable. First, House Republicans included campaign finance disclosure restrictions in the Financial Services Appropriations bill that would have protected secret money in our elections. Now, Republican Leader McConnell and Senate Republicans have inserted a provision into similar legislation to effectively override campaign contribution limits for spending that is coordinated between candidates and their respective political party. It's bad enough that the GOP is willing to allow the very wealthy and special interests to buy and sell our elections. But to try to sneak further measures to undermine our democratic process into legislation to fund critical government entities that regulate banks and grow our economy is simply unacceptable."
