Van Hollen Applauds Senate Introduction of the Stop Super PAC-Candidate Coordination Act

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement applauding Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) for introducing the Stop Super PAC-Candidate Coordination Act. Congressman Van Hollen and Congressman David Price (D-NC) introduced similar legislation in the House in January:

"Each day brings a new headline about the astounding amount of money being raised by candidate-specific Super PACs -- and it's clear that these groups are not operating independently. This level of coordination was never intended and should not be allowed in our system, which is already awash in money. Earlier this year, I joined with Congressman David Price to introduce legislation that would clarify and strengthen the ban on candidate coordination with outside spending groups. I applaud Senator Leahy for taking up this effort in the Senate and I urge his colleagues to join him. When the very wealthy and special interests can buy and sell our elections, the fundamental nature of our democracy is at risk. Failure to act is unacceptable."
