Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) Mid-Session Review:
"Today's Mid-Session Review is the latest report showing that deficits have dropped dramatically since President Obama took office. It makes it clear that we can make important investments in our country and bolster the economy in the short run while still putting in place a responsible fiscal plan. And we must ensure that our economy works for all Americans, not just the wealthy few.
"The first step is for Washington Republicans to put aside their plans, which disinvest in America and undermine economic growth. Serious negotiations are long overdue if we're going to avoid another government shutdown. Instead of partisan rhetoric and repeated efforts to gut vital investments, we need to work together to help the countless families who feel like they're stuck in place or falling behind. Democrats stand ready to start those conversations without delay."
