Van Hollen Speaks at Roundtable Discussion on Green Banks

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen made opening remarks at a roundtable discussion on Green Banks, hosted by the National Economic Council and the Office of Management and Budget. The event brought together federal officials, state leaders, and policy experts to discuss the importance of investing in clean energy technology. Below is an excerpt of his remarks as prepared for delivery:

"Citizens in Maryland and across the country want an affordable, reliable, and abundant supply of clean energy. To achieve that imperative, a growing number of states are creating Green Banks to accelerate the deployment of clean energy technology. As the author of the original Green Bank Act of 2009, I applaud the leadership coming from our states on this issue and thank the White House for its support of this powerful public policy tool as we work together to take America's clean energy transformation to scale. In that regard, Pope Francis' encyclical on climate change could not be more timely. We have a moral obligation to transition our world to clean energy and the financing support that Green Banks provide can help get us there."
