Letter to Douglas Simmons, Acting Administrator of the Maryland State Highway Administration - Traffic Signal at the Intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Stanford Street in Bethesda

Dear Mr. Simmons:

I was pleased to learn that SHA will soon be installing a traffic signal at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Stanford Street in Bethesda.

I have been communicating with SHA for many months about my constituents' concerns regarding the difficulty that they have had crossing this treacherous intersection to access the U.S. Post Office at 6900 Wisconsin Avenue and the neighboring stores. I have called on SHA to act expeditiously before someone is seriously injured.

Although the needed improvements have taken longer than I had hoped, I appreciate SHA's efforts this past winter in improving the crosswalk markings and signage. Moreover, I was pleased to help ensure that the Montgomery County Department of Transportation and the Police Department were coordinating with SHA to safeguard the safety of pedestrians while the improvement project was underway.

I look forward to continuing to work with you to ensure pedestrian safety.
