Heinrich Statement on Deaths of U.S., Italian Hostages

Statement

Date: April 23, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, released the following statement on the deaths of two hostages held by al Qaeda:

"Today's announcement of the killing of Warren Weinstein and Giovanni Lo Porto is tragic and deeply troubling. It is with a heavy heart that I send my condolences to their families as they cope with their loss, and I join the entire nation in honoring these brave men's service. The President and his administration must follow through on their promise to conduct a full and independent accounting of what went wrong. The results of this investigation should be made public because there are some very serious questions that need to be answered."
