Senate Republicans Block Murray, Warren Effort to Move Forward on Legislation to Support Workers

Today, Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) asked unanimous consent to move forward on legislation to expand economic security and stability for working families across the country. The Senators asked to call up legislation to raise the minimum wage, ensure access to paid sick days, and crack down on scheduling abuses, but were blocked by Senate Republicans.

"It's disappointing that Republicans are once again blocking efforts to provide some much-needed economic stability and security for workers across the country," said Senator Murray. "Workers have been waiting long enough for some relief from a trickle-down system that hurts our middle class, so Democrats are going to keep working on ways to grow our economy from the middle out, not the top down. We are going to ensure workers and families have a voice at the table, and we will continue to focus on making sure our country works for all Americans, not just the wealthiest few."

"Instead of working on the kinds of issues that would help level the playing field for hardworking people, Republicans keep turning their backs," Senator Warren said. "We're here to make this country work for hardworking Americans, not to protect those at the top. That's our job, and it's time for this Republican Senate to start doing that job."
