Fischer Votes to Ensure Congress Has Say Over Iran Deal

This afternoon, the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly passed legislation that will ensure congressional oversight of any nuclear agreement with Iran. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a vocal critic of the Obama administration's handling of this deal, released the following statement this evening:

"By passing this legislation, we are ensuring that Congress and the American people have a say in any nuclear agreement with Iran. Only a month ago, congressional review of any agreement with Iran was portrayed as controversial -- or even unnecessary. Today the bill passed with overwhelming, bipartisan support.

"I'm hopeful that this new congressional backstop will help strengthen the hands of our negotiators to craft a better deal. We must remain vigilant over the terms of this agreement. The safety and security of our nation must continue to be our first priority."
