Dear friend,
In the Senate, I've been working across the aisle with my Republican colleagues to make the federal government a better ally of our veteran-owned small businesses. Just the other day we made some exciting progress as Congress passed, and the President signed into law, the Veterans Entrepreneurship Act, which was legislation I introduced that will make it more affordable for veterans to get federal business loans.
It's exciting to see veterans in New Hampshire applying the same can-do approach they used in the military to start and grow their own small businesses. Take Able Ebenezer Brewing Company in Merrimack for instance. Able Ebenezer was started by Mike Frizzelle and Carl Soderberg, two Iraq war veterans who were determined to realize their dream of starting their own brewery. Loans from the Small Business Administration helped purchase brewing equipment and provide working capital. This new law will help more entrepreneurs, like Mike and Carl, as they transition from military service to local job-creators.
Having been a small business owner, I know what it's like to worry about meeting payroll or managing inventory costs in order to keep a business going. As the lead Democrat on the Senate's Small Business Committee, I'm looking for every opportunity to remove barriers and provide support for New Hampshire's small businesses. They truly are the backbone of our economy. By working across the aisle, I know we can do more in Congress to help them succeed.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Shaheen
