Markey Expresses Concern About FCC Proposal on Unwanted Telemarketing Calls

Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), a member of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, released the following statement today after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced a proposal that would allow numerous robocalls and texts to consumers over the course of several days without their consent.

"I appreciate the FCC's careful consideration of changes to the TCPA's rules with the intention of protecting consumers' privacy and ability to block unsolicited calls. However, I remain concerned that the proposed exemptions to the TCPA will result in an increase in unwanted calls and texts to consumers without their consent. I look forward to learning all of the details of the proposal in order to ensure that any exceptions to TCPA rules are designed to protect consumers."
