Statement

Date: April 23, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Jeanne Shaheen made the following comments after Loretta Lynch was confirmed by the Senate as U.S. Attorney General by a vote of 56-43. Shaheen voted in favor of her confirmation.

"The Senate has made history today by not only confirming an extraordinary candidate for Attorney General, but the first African-American woman to hold that position. Ms. Lynch has sterling credentials, a life-long devotion to public service and exhibited tremendous patience throughout the unnecessarily lengthy confirmation process. I want to extend my sincere congratulations to Attorney General Lynch on her confirmation, and most importantly, I wish her the best in her new role as the chief law enforcement officer of the United States."
